ICC Note:

Reports have surfaced that two Christians were tortured by police in Lahore. Recently, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, has condemned the torture and called for Christians to be treated as equal citizens. Christians in Pakistan often face discrimination at the hands of Pakistan’s Muslim majority nation. Police torture for Christians accused of a crime is not uncommon. Will this highly public human rights violation lead to any change in Pakistan for Christians?

5/12/2016 Pakistan (The News International) – Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party has condemned inhuman torture by Lahore police on two members of Christian community and made it clear that PPP won’t tolerate any form of inhuman torture against anybody.

“We are torchbearers of struggle for human rights in Pakistan and any inhuman treatment or torture to fellow citizens will be vehemently resisted,” PPP Chairman said in a statement.

According to reports, thirty-year-old Faraz Masih and forty-year-old Doya Masih were picked up by the investigation wing of the Lahore’s Shalimar police and subjected them to brutal forms of torture. While carrying out the investigations the Lahore police hung one of the men upside down with a bunk and tortured him inhumanely. The other was stripped naked and tortured.
