ICC Note: The Muslim man accused of abducting a 14-year-old Christian girl from Bayelsa State, Nigeria and harboring her in Kano State in northern Nigeria has been charged with five criminal counts including abduction and sexual abuse.
Yunusa Dahiru faced arraignment in a Federal High Court in Bayelsa State Tuesday. Nigerian media are exploding with opinions on different sides of the issue, some claiming that this represents an abduction case and some calling this an example of two young lovers eloping.
The victim is Ese Ororu is a minor, so regardless of motivations, Dahiru broke Nigerian law when he absconded with her to the north to marry her. Abduction and forced conversion represent one of the primary ways radical Muslims persecute Christian women around the world.

Yenagoa, Nigeria(AllAfrica) – Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow, the alleged abductor of 14 years old Ese Oruru, was, yesterday, arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by the Nigeria Police.
He was arraigned on a five-count charge of criminal abduction, illicit sex, sexual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.The police prosecuting team was led by Kenneth Dika from the Force Headquarters….
