03/06/2015 Washington D.C. (International
Christian Concern) – According to Free Methodist
ministry, American missionary Phyllis Sortor has
been released after being kidnapped in Nigeria.
Sortor was captured on February 23, 2015 from her
workplace, Hope Academy, in Nigeria’s Kogi State
and released March 6, 2015. Shortly after her
disappearance, her captors issued a ransom
demand of $300,000 which was later dropped to
$150,000 after her family stated that they would be
unable to afford the demand. It is not yet clear if the
ransom demand was satisfied. Sortor was initially
released to Nigerian authorities before being
transferred to the care of her church. Though not
yet confirmed, it is suspected that local gangs were
responsible for her capture.
